Professor Vaughn Moderates Family and Consumer Law Pro Bono Bootcamp

In recognition of National Pro Bono Celebration Week, the Illinois State Bar Association’s Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services sponsored a free CLE on October 25, 2013 in Rockford, Illinois.  The CLE focused on providing information regarding the fundamentals of family law and consumer law to attorneys who committed to handling at least one pro bono case in the upcoming year from organizations such as Prairie State Legal Services.  Assistant Clinical Professor Vaughn, who serves as the CLE Coordinator for the ISBA’s Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services, moderated the day long training program.

Professor Vaughn recruited a number of NIU College of Law alumni to participate in the event.  Alumna Katherine McGowan-Bettcher ('91) provided training on custody and visitation, while alumnus Donald Ray ('91) presented information on child support establishment and enforcement.  Recent alumnus Kevin Zichterman ('13) gave an overview of resources available to pro bono attorneys through Illinois Legal Aid Online’s pro bono website.
