NIU Hires New Director to Lead Clinical Program
October 10, 2011
DeKalb, Ill. – NIU Law welcomed the addition of a new, outstanding faculty member this fall in Anita Maddali. “We welcome Professor Maddali to our talented community of student-centered teachers and ambitious scholars,” said Dean Jennifer Rosato. “She brings a wealth of knowledge as we continue to expand our curriculum.”
Anita Maddali serves as Assistant Professor and Director of Clinics at the College of Law. Professor Maddali most recently worked at DePaul University College of Law, where she developed and managed a Poverty Law Clinic. Before that she was a Staff Attorney for the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) and taught in the Asylum Law Clinic and Undocumented Youth Defense Clinic at Northwestern University School of Law. One of her areas of expertise is Immigration Law, and her recent article in that area was accepted for publication in the American University Law Review. Professor Maddali is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law and the University of Wisconsin.
Having taught clinical courses at two different law schools and having taken clinical courses as a law student, Professor Maddali believes that clinical education is a critical component of a law school education. She commented, “I am excited by Dean Rosato's vision for the expansion of the clinical program and about working with students as they gain practical, hands-on lawyering experience through clinical and externship programs.”
