NIU Law Brings Classes Together for Reunions

November 22, 2013

DeKalb, Ill. -- The Northern Illinois University College of Law celebrated class reunions for the graduating classes of 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008 on November 15, 2013.  The reunions were held at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in Lombard, IL.  Over 110 alumni attended along with NIU Law Dean Jennifer Rosato and Associate Dean David Gaebler, where everyone enjoyed a festive evening of reflection and connection.  The day also was of significant importance as it was the anniversary of when the College of Law first received accreditation thirty-six years ago.

The reunion was particularly notable for the Class of 1978, who will always carry the title of “Forever First” as the first graduating class of NIU Law, formerly known as Lewis University College of Law in Glen Ellyn, IL.  Chicago’s 2nd ward Alderman Bob Fioretti (’78) led the program with a welcome to the Class of 1978, followed by Dean Rosato’s highlights of current successes and aspirations. Dean Maragos (’78) ended the program with a special toast as they celebrated their success, honored each other, and the memories of former classmates and faculty.

The Classes of 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, and 2008 were warmly welcomed by Alumni Council President Kenya Jenkins-Wright (’03) and Dean Rosato, who encouraged alumni to stay connected with the College of Law.

The night also included a special announcement of a new matching campaign to help continue to create opportunities for student success.  An anonymous donor agreed to match up to $25,000 that will be used to support and directly benefit NIU Law students in three important ways: funding a summer internship initiative, which provides financial assistance to students and allows them to gain valuable career experience; providing bar prep assistance for graduates so they are able to devote their full efforts to study for the exam and increases first-time pass rates; and awarding post-graduate fellowships to enhance the career opportunities for our graduates in the first year of practice. The campaign will match new and increased gifts made through December 31, 2013.
