Illinois Appellate Court, Second District Sits at NIU College of Law

DeKalb, Ill. – The State of Illinois, Appellate Court, Second District, convened and heard oral arguments at the Northern Illinois University College of Law on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in the Francis X. Riley Courtroom.  Justice Jack O'Malley presided and was joined by Justices Michael J. Burke and Ann B. Jorgensen.

The Court heard two arguments.  The first case, Marie Fosler v. Midwest Care Center II, was a civil arbitration clause case.  The second case, People of The State of Illinois v. James E. Dunmore, was a criminal first-degree murder case.  After the arguments, the Justices held an informal question-and-answer session with the students, followed by a reception in the Thurgood Marshall Gallery.
