NIU College of Law Students Succeed in International Moot Court Competition

October 26, 2008

DeKalb, Ill. – Ashley Berman, Paul Isaac and Brad Tengler, third-year law students at the Northern Illinois University College of Law, reached the quarterfinals at the 27th Annual International Moot Court Competition in Information Technology and Privacy Law hosted by The John Marshall Law School in Chicago on October 23-25, 2008.

The team also received the second highest brief score in the entire competition.

Established in 1981, the competition has become one of the largest and most highly respected moot court tournaments. Each year, students from law schools around the world come to brief and argue challenging and unresolved issues relating to privacy and technology law.

Berman, Isaac and Tengler defeated teams from South Dakota, South Africa and Texas Wesleyan to reach the elite eight, where they were narrowly defeated, 175-174, by Stetson School of Law, the number two seed after the preliminary rounds.

“Ashley, Paul and Brad should be proud of their excellent brief and oral argument performances, having advanced further than any NIU College of Law team in recent years,” noted NIU College of Law Associate Dean Lenny Mandell who coached the team.
