May 15, 2008
DeKalb, Ill. – Malcolm L. Morris, interim dean of the Northern Illinois University College of Law, is pleased to announce that United States Representative Bill Foster will serve as the College of Law 2008 Commencement Speaker. The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 24 at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center in DeKalb.
Foster was elected to Congress in February 2008 to fill the remaining term of former Speaker Dennis Hastert in the Illinois 14th Congressional District. He is the Democratic candidate to retain that seat in the November election. For the past 22 years, Foster has worked as a distinguished scientist at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois, where he has played a leading role in several groundbreaking experiments in elementary particle physics. His other career highlights include creating a successful multimillion-dollar business, which he began when he was 19 years old with his younger brother. Today the company manufactures over half of the theater lighting equipment in the United States.
Foster received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1975 and a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University in 1984.
