Honorable Rodney Equi Named Chair
of the NIU College of Law Board of Visitors

 Chicago Attorney John S. Monical Named Vice-Chair
and Honorable Lawrence E. Flood Retains Position as Secretary

DeKalb, Ill. -- Malcolm L. Morris, interim dean of the Northern Illinois University College of Law, is pleased to announce the new officers of its 2008-09 Board of Visitors.

The Honorable Rodney W. Equi of the Illinois 18th Judicial Circuit will lead the Board as its chair. Chicago attorney John S. Monical will serve as vice chair and Honorable Lawrence E. Flood of the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County will remain in his role as secretary.

Established in 1992, the Board of Visitors serves in an advisory capacity to the dean. The Board also assists in developing strategies for enhancing the resources and financial support of the College and provides a link between the College and the Illinois legal community.

Judge Equi, a 1979 graduate of the College of Law, is the presiding judge in the Domestic Relations Division of the Illinois 18th Judicial Circuit. He has served on the bench in DuPage County since being appointed as an associate judge in 1992. Prior to his judicial appointment, Judge Equi was a partner in the firm of Donovan & Roberts, P.C. He has been a member of the College of Law’s Board of Visitors for seven years, most recently serving as vice chair since 2006.

Monical, a 1994 magna cum laude graduate of the College of Law, is a partner with the law firm of Lawrence Kamin Saunders & Uhlenhop, LLC in Chicago. He concentrates his practice on commercial and product liability litigation. He has defended broker-dealers and investment-advisors before the New York Stock Exchange and the National Association of Securities Dealers, as well as nationally known manufacturers in serious injury and wrongful death product liability litigation. Monical has served on the Board of Visitors since 2002.

Judge Flood graduated from the College of Law in 1984. He serves in the Child Protection Division of the Juvenile Justice and Child Protection Department as an associate judge in the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. Prior to his appointment to the bench in 2001, Judge Flood was an associate with the Chicago firm of Burke Burns & Pinelli. His previous legal experience includes serving as special counsel to Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan and

 

practice as an associate with Pucell & Wardope, an associate with Masuda Funai Eifert & Mitchell, and as a partner with Cox Flood & Lyle. He began his legal career as an assistant Cook County state's attorney. Judge Flood joined the Board of Visitors in 2004 and has served as its secretary since 2006. He has also been a member of the College of Law’s Alumni Council.

Judge Equi, Judge Flood and Monical will serve a two-year term in their executive capacities.
