2008 Princeton Review Ranks Northern Illinois University College of Law Among Top 10
NIU Law Gets High Marks for Diversity
October 08, 2007
DeKalb, Ill. -- The Princeton Review ranked Northern Illinois University College of Law among the top 10 law schools for having the most diverse faculty, as published in its 2008 edition of Best 170 Law Schools released this month.
This is the fourth straight year that NIU Law has been recognized for its diversity among its students and faculty. One-third of the NIU Law faculty are people of color.
“NIU Law’s commitment to diversity is manifested in its student body, faculty, and administration,” remarked NIU Law Dean LeRoy Pernell “We are pleased that the Princeton Review again has acknowledged our dedication to fostering a welcoming and multicultural learning environment that attracts individuals with a wide range of interests and backgrounds.”
The Princeton Review, a New York-based education services company, surveyed more than 18,000 students at 170 law schools and took their opinions, along with school statistics reported by administrators, to create eleven rankings lists. Best 170 Law Schools has two-page profiles of the schools with write-ups on their academics, student life and admissions, plus ratings for their academics, selectivity and career placement services. The book is one of 200 Princeton Review titles published by Random House, which is known for its college and career guidebooks, its test-prep courses and other education services. The company is not affiliated with Princeton University.

The only public law school in the greater Chicago area, NIU Law has previously been ranked first in the nation for government placement, according to U.S. News and World Report. Nearly one-third of its graduates choose a career in public interest, including more than 50 alumni in the judiciary -- a remarkable accomplishment for a law school with less than 3,000 graduates. In honor of its commitment to public service, NIU Law received the 2001 Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service Award.
