DeKalb, Ill. -- The Northern Illinois University College of Law named Frank Lima as the computer services/reference librarian and assistant professor in its David C. Shapiro Memorial Law Library effective February 1.
In this position, Lima will maintain the library’s technological research tools as well as help law faculty, students, and other legal researchers efficiently navigate through the library’s various resources. His role also includes ensuring that students are up-to-date on the latest research trends.
"I am delighted that Frank Lima has joined the NIU Law library faculty. His interest in educational technology and legal reference work will enable the law library to expand the levels of service that it offers to its users," remarked John Austin, the library's director.
Relocating to the Midwest is a welcome change for the New England native, but he will be in familiar territory at the NIU Law Library. As an undergraduate at Boston University, Lima worked in its general student library, where he remained as a library assistant after graduating with a psychology degree in 1996. Lima then moved to the university’s business library and was promoted to library supervisor in 2000. He also earned a master's of science degree in library and information sciences in 2001 from Simmons College in Boston, and graduated from Western New England College School of Law in May 2005. At law school, Lima won the Excellence for the Future Award for Advanced Legal Research and Writing from the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction.

The only public law school in the greater Chicago area, NIU Law has previously been ranked first in the nation for government placement, according to U.S. News and World Report. Nearly one-third of its graduates choose a career in public interest, including more than 50 alumni in the judiciary -- a remarkable accomplishment for a law school with less than 3,000 graduates. In honor of its commitment to public service, NIU Law received the 2001 Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service Award.
