Race NIjUdicata: NIU College of Law 5K Run/Walk & BBQ 2011

SAVE THE DATE! - April 16, 2011

With spring coming sooner than you think, the NIU College of Law is encouraging everyone to dust off their running shoes, stretch those legs, and get ready to hit the road!  Race NIjUdicata, the law school's second annual 5K Run/Walk, will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the NIU College of Law, Swen Parson Hall. 

Inspired by our own Dean Jennifer Rosato, an avid runner in her own right, we will be looking for runners, volunteers and sponsors for this exciting new NIU Law tradition.  Prizes will be awarded in several categories, and all proceeds for the event will go toward College of Law Development.

And at race's end, all will be welcome to join us for a BBQ outside of Swen Parson Hall.  More details will be coming soon, so be sure to mark your calendars now!

Entrance Costs

  • Adults: $25
  • NIU students & alumni:  $20
  • Teams of 5 (or more):  $15 per person
  • Children 12 & under:  $10
  • All race day registration (except children): $30

BBQ lunch by Inboden's and event t-shirt are included in registration cost.  Must register by April 8 to guarantee receipt of t-shirt.

Registration

Registration and packet pick-up will be available on Friday, April 15 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the College of Law in the Marshall Gallery.  On Saturday, April 16, registration will begin at 7:45 a.m.  There will be a table for pre-registered participants and another table for on-site registration.  Registration will end at 9:15 a.m. 

Schedule

  • Race time: 9:45 a.m. There is a course cap time of 1 hour.
  • Awards: Announced at end of race.
  • BBQ: 11 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Course

The course map can be found at this link.  A water station will be a little over a mile into the course.

Sponsorship Costs

  • Platinum Sponsorship: $1,000 or more
  • Gold Sponsorship: $500 – 999
  • Silver Sponsorship: $250 – 499
  • Bronze Sponsorship: $100 – 249

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for all of the following duties:

  • Race Day registration
  • Packet, shirt, award and refreshment distribution
  • Results running
  • Outdoor staging and/or course set-up
  • Mile timing
  • Parking and/or traffic control
  • Clean-up and striking after the event

Download the Volunteer Registration Form. (.pdf)  Registration deadline is April 6; there is a mandatory volunteer meeting on Wednesday, April 13 at 6 p.m. in room 186 of Swen Parson Hall.  Pizza will be served.

BBQ

Food prepared by Inboden’s will be available immediately as you finish the race.  The menu includes chicken breasts, burgers, brats, hot dogs, veggie burgers, fruit salad, chips, and drinks.

Raffle

As you check-in, you will be entered into our raffle.  The raffle will take place after the awards ceremony.

Awards

The Awards ceremony is anticipated to begin no later than 11:30 a.m.  Award categories include:

  • Top overall male/female
  • Top 3 finishers in each age division: 14 and under; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+
  • Top NIU Law alumni finisher male/female
  • Top NIU Law student finisher male/female
  • Top team finish

Proceeds

All proceeds from the 5K Run/Walk will go towards NIU College of Law Development.

Parking

There will be plenty of parking in the area.  You may park in the parking deck on Normal Road or in available spaces around the College of Law.  The parking deck and other available spaces are located on the west side of Swen Parson Hall.  To view a map and/or driving directions, click here.
