Omar A. Salguero
About Omar: I was born in Venezuela, grew up in Colombia, and came to the United States when I was seventeen years old. I enjoy traveling, playing soccer, and running. I also enjoy reading about commerce, economics, and social developments in the Hispanic community, and I also enjoy reading Supreme Court opinions related to the topics previously mentioned.
Previous Legal and/or Professional Experience: I had a summer internship at the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and worked at the Center for Economic Progress/Tax clinic.
What activities are you involved in? Last year, as president of the Latino/a Law Student Association (LLSA), I helped organize a pro bono activity called “Ask a Lawyer” day and helped members of the DeKalb area to obtain free legal advice. Also, LLSA put together a panel of judges who shared their experiences on the bench and provided valuable professional advice to NIU Law students. I’m currently the Regional Director for the Midwest region for the National Latino Law Student Association (NLLSA) and a graduate assistant in the NIU College of Law Office of Admissions & Financial Aid.
Why did you choose NIU Law? My experiences as an NIU undergraduate student, as well as my knowledge of the area, suggested that NIU Law was the best place for me to conduct my legal studies. Having been raised in a foreign country, I was delighted to see the attention to diversity that prevails at this law school. I also liked the small size of the student body, the affordable tuition, and the outstanding faculty we have here at NIU Law.
