Lars Okmark
About Lars: I enlisted in the Army in 2004, deploying multiple times in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. While in the Army, I completed my graduate studies at Eastern Kentucky University, majoring in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management. I’ve been happily married since 2008 and have one dog.
Previous Legal and/or Professional Experience: Following my tenure in the Army, I interned for an attorney who specialized in criminal defense and bankruptcy, and also for the Staff Judge Advocate's Office at Fort McPherson, GA, which specialized in military justice, family law, and administrative law. Additionally, I worked as a Legal Liability Claims Supervisor on behalf of the State of Georgia.
What activities are you involved in? I’m in Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity and hope to pursue a summer internship working for the government. In the past, I’ve volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and I have also worked on a judicial campaign for a state court judge. Whenever possible, I enjoy spending time with family and friends.
Why did you choose NIU Law? I selected NIU Law because of the small community, the level of faculty involvement and availability, and the faculty to student ratio. The professors are always willing to discuss issues concerning a specific subject or just law school in general.
