Corey Andre Sealy
About Corey: I am my own worst critic, someone who can’t forgive himself. After my first year in law school, I realized that that is exactly what type of person I would need to be in order to succeed. As a 3L (third-year law student) I have been excelling in my studies, because I demand perfection. Although unattainable, my push allows me to be in the best position to succeed.
Previous Legal and/or Professional Experience: I was a clerk at Heyl Royster in Peoria, Illinois, during my undergraduate education from 2007 until 2008. There, I learned about files, mechanisms, and many lawyer techniques. Over the summer of 2011, I did an internship at Mayer Brown LLP as a Conflicts Research Analyst. There, I learned practical techniques such as cross-checking potential clients and adverse parties.
What activities are you involved in? I am a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and the Black Law Student Association. I also remain active in team sports as a participant in intramural basketball, football, and softball. While not with others, I prefer to improve my physical health by running and exercising in the NIU recreational facilities.
What do you like most about being at NIU Law? The sense of community among the students and faculty here at NIU Law helps my confidence and my belief that I can make it to graduation, the bar exam, and beyond. Everyone seems to be willing to offer advice on a case or an approach to a certain professor’s teaching methods. I like that at NIU Law, I am always growing.
