Vaughn Honored by Rockford Public School District

The Rockford Public School District 205 (RPS) hosted its first Academy Awards ceremony on June 6, 2014 at Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford and presented RPS' first College and Career Readiness Rocking Awards.  Clinical Assistant Professor Wendy Vaughn was awarded a Council Member of the Year award in recognition of her work with RPS College and Career Readiness Councils to help shape academies, pathways, Academy Support Teams, and district-wide student programs.

Professor Vaughn has chaired RPS' Youth Court subcommittee and led a multi-agency team including officials from Rockford Public Schools, the City of Rockford and Rockford Police Department, Winnebago County's State's Attorney's Office and Juvenile Probation Division, Youth Services Network, and Rosecrance Health Network to create a Youth Court diversion program within Rockford's public high schools.  She wrote an opinion piece for the Rockford Register Star on the issue of a youth court in February 2014.  As a result of this work, Youth Services Network has received a three year grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois to fund the implementation of a Youth Court Program in all four of Rockford's traditional high schools.  In 2014, the first Youth Court program was piloted at Jefferson High School.  For the last two years, Professor Vaughn has participated in RPS' Human and Public Services College and Career Readiness Council (HPS CCRC) and served as a member of Jefferson High School's Academic Support Team.
