Professor Vaughn Presents Programs on Pro Bono and Client Communication

In recognition of national pro bono week, Clinical Associate Professor Wendy Vaughn moderated a day-long Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) CLE program entitled "Pro Bono Palooza: Family Law, Employment Law, and Ethics" on October 24, 2014 in Joliet, Illinois. In addition to serving as the program’s moderator, Professor Vaughn was a co-presenter for the session entitled "Communicating with Clients and Using Interpreters Ethically and Effectively."

Professor Vaughn, along with Prairie State Legal Services Managing Attorney and NIU alumna Kathy McGowan Bettcher & professional court interpreter Nicole Okerblad, shared best practices for working with interpreters and the ethical rules governing lawyers’ use of interpreters. Professor Vaughn is a member of the ISBA’s Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services and serves as the CLE Coordinator and Secretary of this committee.
