500, 501 Legal Writing and Advocacy (2, 2)

An introduction to the development of legal writing and advocacy skills through a series of intensive writing exercises culminating in an oral argument. This course begins in the spring semester of the first year and continues during the first seven weeks of the fall semester of the second year of law school. Legal Writing 500 focuses primarily on objective writing, including the drafting of objective, internal office memoranda but also includes a brief introduction to persuasive writing. Legal Writing 501 focuses on the creation of an appellate brief and the presentation of an oral argument.
