820 Foreclosure Mediation Clinic (4)

The Foreclosure Mediation Clinic provides students with the opportunity to provide representation for Kane County homeowners during the mediation portion of their foreclosure case. Students receive intensive training in foreclosure law, mediation advocacy and client-centered lawyering during the weekly clinic seminar. As well as providing direct representation to homeowners, clinic students provide legal information to borrowers at the Foreclosure Help Desk in Kane County, and work with the courts and legal service providers and housing counselors to expand access to justice for homeowners facing foreclosure. The Clinic focuses on developing students’ client interviewing, client advising, negotiation, and mediation advocacy skills, as well as their understanding of the systemic and legal problems that have contributed to the current foreclosure crisis.
