Biography

Dr. Kenneth C. Chessick is a doctor of medicine certified in general surgery with an area of special interest in gastroenterology. His hospital affiliation is with Saint Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates in the Department of Surgery. He is a member of the Quality Assurance, Trauma, Tissue and Transfusion, Infection Control, and Emergency Room committees at Saint Alexius. He is board certified with the American Board of Surgery and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Kenneth C. Chessick's law firm, The Law Offices of Kenneth Chessick, M.D., is a six-lawyer firm that concentrates its practice in medical and hospital negligence and personal injury representing catastrophically injured victims in Illinois and Nevada in state and federal courts. The firm has achieved verdicts at trial and settlements in excess of $1,000,000 fifteen times in Cook, Kane, Winnebago, DuPage, Boone, and Ogle counties. The Chessick firm has achieved the highest medical negligence verdict in DuPage County, the highest verdict in a dental negligence verdict in Winnebago County, and the first medical negligence verdict in Kane County, Illinois in more than a decade. The firm conducts appellate representation and has successfully prosecuted multiple landmark appeals in the First and Second District Court of Appeals and the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Chessick received a B.S. in zoology and psychology from the University of Illinois in 1964; an M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1968; and a J.D. cum laude from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1984. While studying for his medical degree, he took part in Project HOPE in Colombia, S.A. in tropical medicine and medical education.

Dr. Chessick did a mixed, major medicine rotating internship with Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. His postgraduate surgical residency training in general, gastrointestinal and vascular surgery was completed at Hines Veterans Administration Hospital in Maywood, Illinois, and Boston City Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1972-73 he was an instructor in surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and in 1979-80 at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, Florida. He has medical practice experience in Highland Park Hospital, Highland Park, Illinois; Skokie Valley Community Hospital, Skokie, Illinois; Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, Florida; Sherman Hospital, Elgin, Illinois; and Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Dr. Chessick is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Emergency Medicine, The Southeastern Surgical Congress, American College of Angiology, American Society of Abdominal Surgeons, International College of Surgeons, Florida Association of General Surgeons, and the American Cancer Society.

Chessick is admitted to the Illinois State Bar, the Nevada State Bar, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Trial Bar. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Nevada State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.

He is currently chair of the Northern Illinois University College of Law Board of Visitors. He has previously served as secretary and vice-president, and has been a member since 1997. He is a member of the Northern Illinois University Foundation Board of Directors and the Development Committee; he received the NIU College of Law Alumni Council Patron Award in 1996 and 1997; and he has been a guest lecturer at the NIU College of Law classes in advanced tort law and advanced civil procedure on many occasions.
