Applications are ranked by the Center’s elected advisory committee. Applicants must submit a double-spaced 1,000 word proposal, a budget, a current C.V., and an itinerary for any travel. Six copies of the proposal and associated documents are required for submission.
Grant winners must submit a 1,000 word report no less than six weeks following their return from the field. Grant winners must also acknowledge support received from the Center in subsequent publications, and agree to discuss their Center-supported research in a seminar format.
Explain clearly in essay form of not more than 1,000 words what you plan to do and why, making clear the relevance of the project to your professional experience and the significance of the project within your field of scholarship, bearing in mind that the selection committee is multi-disciplinary, composed of scholars who are not necessarily specialists in your own field. Give a brief summary of the progress already made on the project. If your project is a part of a cooperative undertaking, explain the relationships. Please also include information on any publication arrangements that have already been made.
If vital to the research statement, a bibliography of not more than two pages should be included with the proposal. Each page of the proposal and budget should be consecutively numbered, and your name in the upper right-hand corner. Head your proposal with a brief, descriptive title.
