The Center has been involved in a variety of community outreach programs over the years, including a recent multi-year association with several regional high schools and community colleges to encourage Latino high school students to pursue careers in the health sciences. Funded by a series of grants from the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the program also entailed offering a series of workshops in Latino communities to provide residents with information about preventive health care and the availability of medical facilities in their area. Center staff enjoyed collaborative arrangements with high school instructors, counselors and health care professionals, and enjoyed working with hundreds of students interested in becoming doctors, nurses, paramedics, and physical therapists.
