Administrative Electronic Multi-Key Sets

If you do not have a key on your electronic multi-key set for a particular feature, you can use the System Feature Activation Codes, if the code is programmed on that individual phone number.

If you are uncertain which features are programmed on your phone, contact the NIUTEL.

Answering Calls

  • Press the line key for the ringing line as indicated by the flashing LCD then lift handset and talk.

Automatic Call Return

  • To call the last number that called your line, pick up handset or press one of the lines on your phone, then press the Automatic Call Back, ACB key.

Automatic Dial

  • With the handset in the cradle, press the Auto Dial (AUD) key to be programmed.  The adjacent LCD will flash indicating that the key is in the programming state.
  • Dial the digits to be stored.
  • Press the Auto Dial (AUD) key again.
  • The digits are now stored against the key and will be dialed automatically whenever the key is pressed.

Automatic Redial

  • To call last dialed number, pick up handset or press one of the lines on your phone, then press the Automatic Redial, AR key.

Call Forward

To Activate:

  • Without lifting the handset, press the Call Fwd key once; the LCD next to the Call Fwd key flashes.
  • Dial the extension number to which calls are forwarded.
  • Press the Call Fwd key again to activate the call forwarding.

To Cancel:

  • Press the Call Fwd key once; the LCD next to the Call Fwd key will go off.

Call Pickup

  • Another telephone in your Call Pickup group rings.
  • Select an idle line: dial tone is heard.
  • Press the Call Pickup key.  You are automatically connected to the incoming call.

Call Transfer/Three-Way Calling

  • While on an active call, press the CONF 3 or CALL TRANS key once; special dial tone is heard and the second party is placed on hold.
  • Dial the third party's telephone (extension) number.
  • When the third party answers, press the CONF 3 or CALL TRANS key once again; you will then be connected in a three-way call or press the RLS key to complete the transfer.

NOTE: If the third party's line is busy or fails to answer, press the CONF 3 or CALL TRANS key twice to be reconnected to the second party.

Call Waiting

  • While on an established call, a call-waiting tone sounds through the built-in speaker and the LCD will flash next to the Call Waiting key.
  • To place the established call on hold, press the Call Waiting key.  This connects you with the second caller.  You may then "flip-flop" between the two calls by pressing the key next to the flashing LCD of the call on hold.
  • To disconnect from either call, press the RLS key while connected to that call.

Conference-Six Way

  • Place a telephone call to a second party in the normal manner.
  • After the second party is on the line, press the CONF 6 key once, special dial tone is heard, the second party is placed on hold, and the LCD next to the held line flashes rapidly.
  • Dial the telephone number of the party to be added to the conference.
  • When the called party answers, press the CONF 6 key once to connect to the conference.
  • If a called line is busy or the party fails to answer, you may return to the conference by pressing the RLS key and then the key next to the rapidly flashing LCD.

Restrictions: Up to six conferences - this includes the originator of the call.  The conference originator must stay active in the conference until its termination.  The originator may place the conference on hold.

Group Intercom / GIC

  • Press the I/C Group key once.  Dial tone is heard and the LCD lights up next to the I/C Group key.
  • Dial the group-intercom number applicable for your department or group.

Placing Calls

  • Lift handset and select an idle line; when dial tone is heard, dial desired number.
  • Select an idle line by pressing the desired line key; when dial tone is heard through the built-in speaker, dial desired number.  Lift handset to talk.

Placing Calls on Hold

To place a call on hold for the purpose of placing another call:

  • Press the Hold key; this places the active call on hold and causes the LCD next to the held-line key to flash rapidly.  Select an idle line and place the second call.
      or
  • Press an idle line key; this automatically places the active call on hold and causes the LCD next to held-line key to flash rapidly.  Place the second call.
  • To place a call on hold for the purpose of answering another call:
    • Press the HOLD key; this places the active call on hold and causes the LCD next to the held-line key to flash rapidly.  Answer the second call by pressing the line key next to the slowly-flashing LCD.
        or
    • Press the line key for the second incoming call, as indicated by the flashing LCD; this automatically places the first call on hold and causes the LCD next to the held-line to flash rapidly.  You are now connected to second caller.
    • To reconnect to a held call, press the line key next to the rapidly-flashing LCD and the second caller will be put on hold.

Terminating Calls

  • Press the "Release" or RLS key.  It is common courtesy to press RLS as opposed to replacing the receiver.

Two-Party Intercom

  • Press the Intercom, I/C, key and lift the handset; ringing tone is heard, then silence.
  • Deliver your message; the other party will hear you through the speaker on their electronic multi-key telephone set.   If the other party does lift the handset, you may carry on a two-way conversation.

    To receive a call on your two-party intercom:

    • When you hear a two-second buzz through the speaker of your telephone set and notice that the LCD next to the I/C is flashing, press the I/C key; this places your active call on hold and connects you to the intercom call.
    • To return to the held call, press the held-line key next to the rapidly flashing LCD.

    If you are not using your set when the intercom call comes in:
    • When you hear ringing through the speaker of your telephone set and notice that the LCD next to the I/C key is flashing, press the I/C key or simply wait two seconds to be connected automatically to the intercom call.
    • Take the intercom message through the speaker of your telephone set.
    • If a response to the message is required, lift the handset and speak.
