Onsite Repair and Support Services for Administrative Users

Telephone Repair and Support Services

If you have problems with your telephone, first reset all connections (unplug and plug back in), as this may clear your telephone.  Technicians will only service NIU provided equipment.  If you are using your own equipment, such as a cordless phone or other accessories, you need to reconnect the provided equipment before contacting us for service.  If you are still experiencing problems, contact the ITS Helpdesk.

To request telephone moves or new service, you need to complete an Work OrderPlease note that charges may apply.  Only authorized departmental personnel can request Work Order activity.  For current rates, see the ITS Rates page.  For help or information about any Work Order, call 753-0963 or niutel@niu.edu.

Desktop PC Support and Repair

  • software and operating system installation and configuration
  • hardware troubleshooting and repair
  • complete PC setup and configuration

Normal work order rates will apply, plus any additional parts that may be required.  Work performed under preexisting ITS service agreements will be charged appropriately.  Only authorized departmental personnel may request billable services, please contact your department if you are unsure what computer support is available through your department's technical support staff.

  • To report software or hardware problems that may require an onsite visit, contact the ITS Helpdesk. Include the location and NIU property control tag number for the equipment.
  • For new software or hardware installation and/or configurations, complete the online Work Order form, or e-mailing niutel@niu.edu.  If you have questions about a Work Order, call 815-753-0963.

Network Connection Repair and Work Order Services

First contact your department's Local Area Network (LAN) Administrator or technical support personnel (if applicable) to allow them to verify that there is a problem with the network connection.  Note that charges may apply if it is determined that the failure is due to customer provided equipment (i.e. your computer).  If you want to have a technician come on-site to inspect your connection, contact the ITS Helpdesk.

Printer Repair and Support

Information Technology Services offers onsite printer repair services for NIU Administrative / Departmental owned printers.  Normal work order rates will apply, plus any additional parts that may be required.  Work performed under preexisting ITS service agreements will be charged appropriately.  Only authorized departmental personnel can request billable services, contact your department if you are unsure what computer and printer support is available through your department's technical support staff.

  • To report problems with a printer that may require an onsite visit, contact the ITS Helpdesk.  Be sure to include the location, printer model number, and NIU property control tag number for the printer.
  • To request a new network printer be setup, including a print queue, fill out the ITS Print Queue Request form and fax it to 753-0198.
