Every employee who is classified as being retired from the University gets a GroupWise retiree mailbox. It is free for 1 year after retirement date. After that, the annual renewal of the GroupWise retiree mailbox requires membership in the NIU Annuitants Association.
A request can be made once your paperwork has been processed with the University. This request can be as early as two months before your retirement date.
In the GroupWise Address Book your "Department" will be Retiree.
Your retiree address will be r followed by your employee ID @niu.edu. You can change this to your work email alias.
Go to Change or Update Directory Information for instructions.
Your work mailbox content, including mail, appointments, tasks, notes, proxy access, resource mailbox ownership, and address books, will not transfer to your retiree mailbox.
The Helpdesk will be glad to help you retrieve emails and addresses and forward email to a different mailbox. Please allow sufficient time for this.
Your work mailbox will be available for 180 days after retirement or February 2, 2015, whichever comes later, after which it will be deleted.
Your AccountID will remain active until May 1 of the year following your retirement. Your AccountID gives you access to MyNIU, including your W-2.
