Administrator Options: General Options

Option Name Description of Options New List Default
real_name The list name (name@lists.niu.edu).  The name can not be changed here, only the case. The Name of the list

description A short description of the list.  This information is published on the servers list of available listservs. (none)
info An introductory description of the list.  This information will be displayed at the top of the listinfo page. (none)
subject_prefix Prefix added to the subject line on messages sent out on the list. [ListName]
anonymous_list From, sender, and reply-to are removed from the message.  This option is generally used on lists that have a limited number of unmoderated users and lists used to make announcements to the list subscribers. No
first_strip_reply_to Remove any reply-to header from the message before sending.  This will remove headers added by Mailman No
reply_goes_to_list The reply to header is the address that will be used when someone replies to the message.  Normally replies would be directed to the person who posted the message.  For lists that are unmoderated and used for the purposes of discussion, you may wish to have replies sent to the list address.  You may also define a specific address to send replies to. reply_to_address The is the explicit address for replies.  This address only functions if the "Explicit Address" option is selected above. (no default)
umbrella_list Send password reminders to the list owner instead of the list members. No
umbrella_member_suffix Suffix used for sending to the list owner.  This setting should not be changed. -owner
send_reminders If enabled, list members will receive a password reminder monthly. No
welcome_msg The welcome message is normally sent to new subscribers of a list.  It may contain details about using the list as well as instructions for unsubscribing from the list. (no default)
send_welcome_msg This option can be overridden when adding new list members using the Mailman administrator interface. Yes
goodbye_msg Text to be sent when a list member is unsubscribed from the list. (no default)
send_goodbye_msg Option to send the goodbye message to members when they unsubscribe from the list. Yes
admin_immed_notify Immediate notification for pending requests for the list.  Batched daily notices will also be sent to moderators. Yes
admin_notify_mchanges List administrator notification option for all subscription changes. No
respond_to_post_requests Reply to post requests for moderated users with a notification their post is being held for approval. Yes
emergency Emergency moderation of all list traffic.  Should only be used to temporally moderate a normally unmoderated list. No

max_message_size Maximum length of the message body (Kb).  Many e-mail programs (including GroupWise) have limits on the size of a message body. 40
