A Retiree Account includes a GroupWise e-mail account and access to the NIU network. It is available to any employee who is classified as being retired from the University. Initial acounts are free for 1 year after retirement date. After that, the annual renewal of an account requires membership in the NIU Annuitants Association.
A request can be made once your paperwork has been processed with the University. This request can be as early as two months before your retirement date.
GroupWise retiree accounts are free for 1 year after retirement date. After that, the annual renewal of an account requires membership in the NIU Annuitants Association. Renewal of your account will be on July 1 each year.
After you retire, mail to your work mail address will continue to go to your work mailbox, not your retiree mailbox.
Your work mailbox will be available for 210 days after retirement, after which it will be deleted. Any information you need from your work mailbox must be retrieved or transferred by you before the 210 day deletion deadline. The Help Desk will be glad to assist you in retrieving desired e-mails and addresses or forwarding them to a different e-mail account, but please allow sufficient time for this.
Your NIU AccountID (not your GroupWise mailbox, see above) will remain active for 210 days from retirement or until May 1 of the year following your retirement, whichever comes last.
