USPS Move Update

As of November 23, 2008, all Standard Mail must comply with the U.S. Postal Service’s Move Update regulations.

The USPS requires the use of current verifiable addresses for all Standard Mail. This is known as “Move Update”. It is the same requirement that First Class Mail has had in place for several years.

The National Change of Address (NCOA) system keeps a database of approximately 160 million records of address changes. This database includes individuals, families, or businesses that have placed a Change of Address Request at their local post office within the last 48 months.

Document Services is prepared

We are compliant with USPS regulations, including Move Update. Each time we receive your mailing list, Document Services will run it through NCOA for Move Update, prepare the appropriate postal forms and verify your mailings’ compliance with USPS regulations.

What are your mailing list options?

  • Send Document Services your mailing list. We will process it through NCOA and Move Update and supply you with a printed audit report listing the addresses that need to be updated.

    OR
  • Send Document Services your original mailing list. Let us manage your list and keep it current. Just provide us with additional addresses as you need.

What if you want to address your own mail?

It is important that you have your mailing list processed by Document Services through NCOA for Move Update prior to addressing mail pieces. This process must take place every 95 days in order for your list to comply.

If you address your own Standard Mailing, you will need to provide the Certification of Move Update Compliance Form prior to Document Services pickup.

What if you don’t process your mailing list through Mail Update?

After November 23, 2008, if your mail is delivered to the USPS without being processed for Move Update they can:

  • Send your mailing at First Class postage rates with no discounts

    OR
  • Return your mailing.
