Connecting to NIU WiFi on Windows XP

Windows XP Wireless Utility

  1. Select "Start" and then click "Control Panel".

  2. On the Control Panel menu select "Network Connections".

  3. Click on "Wireless Network Connections" and select "Properties".

  4. Under the "Wireless Networks" tab, in the "Preferred networks" section, click on "Add".

  5. In the "Network Name (SSID)" field, type in "NIUwireless".
  6. In the "Wireless network key" section, select "WPA" from the drop down menu next to "Network Authentication", then select "AES" from the drop down menu next to "Data encryption".

  7. Under the "Authentication" tab, select "Protected EAP (PEAP)" from the "EAP type" drop down menu. Uncheck "Authenticate as computer when computer information is available." Click "Properties".

  8. Under "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" check ALL instances of "VeriSign Trust Network" and then click "Configure".

  9. Uncheck the "Automatically use my Windows Logon name and password (amd domain if any)" and then click on "OK".

  10. On any remaining screens, click "OK".
  11. Click on the information balloon and it will open up a window to enter your credentials. Enter your NIU AccountID/Z-ID and password, leave "Logon domain" blank.

  12. After entering in your credentials click "OK". Another information balloon will appear saying that the computer has been connected to NIUwireless network.
