Your AccountID / Z-ID & Password

Your AccountID / Z-ID

Your AccountID / Z-ID is assigned to you when you are admitted to NIU as a student or hired as an employee. It is cancelled after you leave NIU.

You need your AccountID/Z-ID and password to access computing and communications services at NIU like:

  • Blackboard
  • software applications on file servers
  • computers in ITS and ResTech computer labs
  • NIU student e-mail
  • your network storage space (H: drive)
  • network printers
  • dial-in services
  • wireless network connections on the DeKalb campus

Look up your AccountID / Z-ID

  • Go to www.accountid.niu.edu
  • Click on Look up your Z-ID / AccountID
  • Enter your last name in the Last Name field
  • Click Next - you'll see your name and your AccountID / Z-ID

Your Password

Your initial password is your date of birth in YYYYMMDD format.  For example, 19820509 would be the initial password for a birth date for May 9, 1982. This is a temporary password. You need to change this password to a permanent password at www.password.niu.edu.
