Welcome from the Chair

On behalf of the ISyE students, staff and faculty, I welcome you to the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) at Northern Illinois University (NIU).

We are very proud of our faculty who are dedicated and whose expertise spans many areas within the ISyE field. We are also highly proud of our curriculum which is current, rigorous, and prepares our students for successful careers after graduation. When our students graduate they are equipped with industrial engineering tools, problem solving, computer skills, and communication and teamwork skills. We are extremely proud of our alumni, current students and the status of our department.

At the ISyE department, we continue to strive for greater excellence in industrial and systems engineering education, research and service. The department enjoys strong ties with local industry, government agencies, alumni, and the community.

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering offers the following programs:

  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering with an emphasis in
  • Manufacturing Systems Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering with an emphasis in Health Systems Engineering
  • Integrated B.S./M.S. Sequence
  • Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering

These are exciting times for our profession. The world is moving quickly and the body of knowledge in the areas of expertise that define our profession is growing rapidly. For example, we have added new courses to our curriculum in supply chain, logistics, and six-sigma to better prepare our students. The demand for Industrial and Systems Engineers has remained strong over the past decade. This trend is expected to continue. The demand for Industrial and Systems Engineering professionals is expected to be even stronger in the next decade.
