Academic requirements for students transferring from a university outside of the U.S.
Students with transfer credit
Students coming from another university will have their credentials evaluated by an International Admissions staff member. We will do our best to appropriately transfer needed classes but cannot guarantee you will transfer into NIU at the same level you left your previous university.
Academic criteria:
- Be in good standing at the last attended university
- Have a GPA of at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale (C average) from all colleges/universities attended (as computed by NIU standards).
Students with degrees equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree
If a you are found to have a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree, you will enter NIU with all the core requirements considered complete.
Specific major programs may have additional course requirements and academic standards.

- Have at least a "C" grade point average (2.00 on a 4.00 scale) from all universities attended (as computed by NIU standards)
