Eligibility

  • For US citizens:  rising seniors, graduate students, alumni
  • Very competitive:  applicants should have a total GPA of at least 3.3, with 3.5 preferred

 

Available grants

  • Research or study abroad:  in virtually every nation with a Fulbright Commission (therefore, not in all nations)
  • English Language Teaching Assistantships:  available in growing number of nations throughout western and eastern Europe, Asia, and Latin America
  • Typically one academic year:  fall 2009 – spring 2010

  • Participate in Student Fulbright Interest Day, Wednesday, March 26, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Identify type of fellowship
  • Identify nation of interest
  • Start making contacts and plans

 

Most important aspects of the application

  • One-page personal statement or intellectual history
  • Two-page program proposal: succinct and clear outline of what applicant wishes to study, where, why, and how. 

 

Time frame

  • Campus deadline:  09/26/2008
  • Interview with campus Fulbright committee:  October 1 – 10, 2008
  • Final deadline in New York:  10/20/2008
  • Notification about recommendation:  01/31/2009
  • Final selection:  sometime during spring semester 2009
  • Grant periods begin:  fall 2009.
