Thailand Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya visited the NIU campus on Monday, September 28, 2009. He spoke to a very well attended audience on the topic of continuing cooperation between Thailand and the United States in areas of education, economics and foreign affairs. His Excellency wanted to visit NIU because he is impressed by what NIU does in Thai Studies. NIU Political Scientist Danny Unger, who specializes in Thai politics, arranged for the visit. Narong Sasitorn, Thailand's consul-general in Chicago, accompanied Piromay, along with consuls-general from Los Angles, New York, and Vancouver. Ambassadors from Mexico, Chile, Canada, Argentina, Peru, Federative Republic of Brazil and His Excellency Mr. Norachit Sinhaseni, permanent Representative to the United Nations, was also in attendance.
