Standard Sets

Close diagnostics of student test performance on the ISAT can be done using the Standard Sets. ISAT standard sets are used in all ISAT and in IMAGE mathematics assessments. The Standard Sets are logical subsets of test items from a given ISAT test that are broken out separately to assess student skills in particular areas. There are 6 standard sets in the Reading assessment, for example, grouped to assess particular skills such as reading comprehension, reading strategies, vocabulary, and word analysis, etc. There are similar standards sets for mathematics, writing, science and social science. Keep in mind that the questions in the standards sets are not weighted by difficulty, so item analysis is not possible. However, standard sets do show student performance within each subject so as to reveal areas of particular strengths or weakness. Schools and teachers can build on the diagnostic feedback of standard sets in their curricular planning.

To see ISAT standards sets, select a school and click on “Test Results.” The standard sets link is located at the top of the page under the school information banner. You can use the standard sets to analyze student performance on specific skills in each of the tested subjects.
