Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT)

The IIRC presents the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) results for all public schools and districts in Illinois for the years 1999-2003 in easy-to-understand graphs and tables. IIRC will add the results for the 2004 assessments as these become available.

young students in classroomISAT measures individual student achievement relative to the Illinois Learning Standards. Curriculum experts and Illinois teachers have developed these standards in collaboration with the Illinois State Board of Education. Results are reported by subject according to four performance levels: exceeds standards, meets standards, below standards, and academic warning.

The bar graphs displaying school or district results on the ISAT tests are color-coded to easily show the proportion of students in each performace category. The results give parents, teachers, and schools one measure of student learning and school performance.

Students in grades 3, 5, and 8 take the ISAT in reading, writing, and mathematics. Students in grades 4 and 7 take the ISAT in science and social science. Schools may voluntarily administer tests in physical development and health and fine arts to students in grades 9 and/or 10.

The graphs on this site also present ISAT results for specific student demographic groups whose performance is tracked for purposes of assessing adequate yearly progress (AYP) of schools. The specific student subgroups are race/ethnicity (five groups), low income status, students with disabilities, and limited-English proficient.
