Illinois Measure of Annual Growth in English (IMAGE)
The Illinois Measure of Annual Growth in English (IMAGE) measures the progress of students with
limited English proficiency (LEP) in attaining the English-language reading and writing skills needed
to achieve the Illinois Learning Standards.
IMAGE tests are administered to LEP students who
have been in either a Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) or Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI)
program for less than three years. The tests are administered annually in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Specifically, IMAGE reading and writing tests are given to eligible LEP students in grades 3-11, and
IMAGE mathematics tests are given to eligible LEP students in grades 3, 5, 8, and 11. IMAGE mathematics
test were introduced for the first time in 2002 to meet federal school accountability requirements.
