Illinois Single Accountability System: Schools

- State Status: Fully Recognized
- School is in compliance with state mandates.
- Status: Academic Early Warning 1 and Federal School Improvement 1
- School has not made Adequate Yearly Progress for two
consecutive years. Illinois requires a revised school improvement plan and
will assign an external support team to work with educators and assist with
School and District analysis. Extended day and year programs are optional. In
addition, federal law requires that Title I schools must offer School Choice,
which allows parents to move their students to more successful schools.
- Status: Academic Early Warning 2 and Federal School Improvement 2
- School has not made Adequate Yearly Progress for
three consecutive years. Illinois requires a revised school improvement plan
and will assign an external support team to work with educators and assist
with School and District analysis. Extended day and year programs are
optional. In addition, federal law requires that Title I schools must offer
School Choice, which allows parents to move their students to more successful
schools AND Supplemental Educational Services such as free tutoring.
- Status: Academic Watch 1 and Federal Corrective Action
- School has not made Adequate Yearly Progress for four
consecutive years. Illinois requires a revised school improvement plan and
will assign an external support team to work with educators and assist with
School and District analysis. Extended day and year programs are optional. The
State Superintendent will appoint a School Improvement Panel for each school
in this status. In addition, Title I schools must offer School Choice and
Supplemental Education Services. Other options required by federal law for
Title I schools include extended school day/year and/or incentives for Highly
Qualified Teachers and/or external curriculum modifications.
- Status: Academic Watch 2 and Federal Restructuring Planning Year
- School has not made Adequate Yearly Progress for five
years. The state School Improvement Panel will continue and all state
requirements and options continue from the previous year. Under federal law,
Title I schools continue to offer school choice and supplemental educational
services; schools must also plan for restructuring the next year if no
improvements occur.
- Status: State Intervention and Federal Restructuring
- School has not made Adequate Yearly Progress for six years. The Regional Superintendent removes the local school board OR the State Superintendent appoints an independent authority to operate the school or district. The State Board may dissolve the entity OR the State Superintendent may reassign pupils and reassign or remove administrative staff. Title I schools must continue to offer school choice and supplemental services. Federal restructuring options include the following: classify the school as a charter school OR replace principal and staff OR select an outside management entity OR state takeover and management.
