Sponsorship Makes The Stock Market Game™ Available Free to All Illinois Schools
Through the generous support of Cabrera Capital Markets, LLC, The Stock Market Game™, an educational program to teach savings and investing to students in grades 4-12, is free to all schools in Illinois. This sponsorship, announced in March 2007, covers areas of the state not sponsored through other grants.
For three years, the program has been available free to schools in south-central and southern Illinois through funding from A.G. Edwards. Through support from HSBC, Cabrera Capital Markets, LLC, and the Chicago Tribune News in Education program, the program has also been free for five years in the City of Chicago. Those sponsorships continue. With the additional sponsorship by Cabrera, and the support of the Chicago Tribune NIE program (providing newspapers free of charge), the SMG program is available to all other schools in the state without cost.
Cabrera has added support for a new set of awards (see article), which will give the top elementary team in the state a 2-day visit to Chicago, and the top high school team a 3-day visit to New York City following the close of each school year. The Cabrera Statewide Awards will be awarded in early May, with trips planned for late May or early June.
Martin Cabrera, owner of Cabrera Capital Markets, LLC , is a product of the SMG program – his involvement in the program as a senior student at Bogan High School in Chicago changed his career goals and led him to his highly successful career. Mr. Cabrera earned his B.A. in Finance from Northern Illinois University, and began working for a brokerage firm in Chicago. Now, he is President and owner of Cabrera Capital Markets, LLC, a premier investment banking and institutional brokerage firm located in Chicago, with offices in cities around the nation.
Having benefited personally from his own participation in The Stock Market Game™, Mr. Cabrera is committed to helping every student in Illinois have the opportunity to learn about the world of investments. Thanks to his generosity, and the generosity of the other principal sponsors (The Chicago Tribune NIE program; HSBC; and A.G. Edwards), every child now has that opportunity.
