SMG Study Participants Needed!
Teachers and students are needed to participate in a nationwide evaluation of The Stock Market Game during the fall of 2008. Participants will provide the valuable information and feedback that only teachers and students can give! Teachers do not need to have previously implemented the SMG in their classroom. Veterans and newcomers alike are needed! Download the information flyer and apply now. Selected teachers will be notified this summer.
Illinois Capitol Challenge Results
Illinois Capitol Challenge (ICC) is offered every fall, matching state legislators and others to SMG schools. Students compete in their usual SMG region, for prizes and recognition - and also compete with other ICC teams in a separate pull-out of the SMG.
At the end of the fall session, teachers of the top three teams win cash awards; the top team wins a trip to Springfield, the second and third place teams win certificates of award. Legislative sponsors visit their schools to learn how the students are managing their SMG portfolios, and better understand the teaching/learning process.

About The Stock Market Game™
The Stock Market Game™ program is an online education program used in thousands of classrooms nationwide to help teach math, social studies, business, economics and language skills while focusing on the importance of long-term savings and investment. In Illinois, the SMG program has engaged over 425,000 students since 1988.
Students in grades 4-12 participate in teams and manage a simulated investment portfolio during ten to fifteen weeks of the school year. Teachers access grade- and subject-specific lesson plans, activities, newsletters and tutorials for classroom instruction.
SMG lessons and activities are available in four mastery levels and four different grade divisions. Thus, the same students can increase learning by being involved in the SMG more than once - two different semesters of the same year, or two or more years in school.
Teachers new to the SMG program should visit the SMG's public website at www.stockmarketgame.org for complete information on the program and to see a demonstration of how it works. Returning teachers should start at the public page; click one of the Registration links and select Illinois. This will bring them to the most up-to-date information on the SMG in Illinois - game dates, workshops, newspaper delivery, awards and sponsorships.
Timeline
Complete and up-to-date information on upcoming game dates for the portfolio simulation will be found through the Registration link on SMG's public website, www.stockmarketgame.org.
To accommodate the different general school calendars, two trading windows are offered each semester: One start date for schools outside the City of Chicago; another start date for Chicago schools. Teachers can begin the simulation when convenient on or after the first date of the trading window for their school. Student teams should not begin the online simulation until they have researched, and are ready to make informed stock purchases. Each session has a deadline by which student teams must make their first trade to avoid deletion.
In addition to the "fall" and "spring"sessions, a year-long session is offered for the 2007-2008 school year. Teachers having the same students for the entire school year can maximize the SMG portfolio simulation by enrolling some of their students in this September through April session.
New for 2008, an "Enrichment Session" running March 17-May 23 is available to teachers to use as a year-end learning program.
Registration
To register, go to the public page of SMG at www.stockmarketgame.org. Click one of the Registration links. Teachers should not register until certain how many students will be in the SMG class, to avoid unused teams.
