Financial Fitness for Kids

The Office of the City Treasurer, in partnership with the Chicago Public Schools and the Illinois Council on Economic Education (ICEE), have embarked on an exciting financial literacy pilot program (Financial Fitness For Kids), which teaches the basics of finance to Chicago Public School primary students, Kindergarten through fifth grade.

After the initial pilot program in 2003-2004, the FFFK program has been expanded and refocused to build an on-going sequential program in twenty schools throughout the City of Chicago.  The expanded 3-year pilot program is involved with its’ final school year with discussion taking place on expanding the program beginning the fall of 2008.

Training, a building support meeting held at each school, curriculum materials and opportunities for graduate credit are available to the teachers involved.  Pre-testing and post-testing of participating students, as well as for students not involved in the program, provide research data supporting the program’s success and input for continual improvement.
