From The President
New Faces! Going Places!
ICEE is pleased to welcome Joy Joyce, who has just started as a New Initiatives Coordinator for the Council, working part-time. Joy is retired from Willowbrook High School, where she taught economics for many years. She is also a past recipient of the ICEE 3M Economic Educator Excellence Award. Joy will be helping to coordinate and deliver some of our newer programs or program extensions, such as the Illinois Capitol Challenge and our new Path to Investing seminars.
Recent additions to the Council staff reflect continuing growth for ICEE programs. Thanks to generous new grants (see related article), we are continuously expanding our offerings for schools. The Illinois Capitol Challenge, which pairs members of the Illinois General Assembly with schools in their district, grew from 9 participating legislators last year to 25 this year.
Congratulations to State Senator Carol Pankau and her first place team from teacher Adam Cibulka’s class at Addison Trail High School. Congratulations also go to the second place team (Marengo HS, teacher Kevin Weck; Senator Pamela Althoff, sponsor); and to the third place team (DeKalb HS, Scott Schumacher; Representative Robert Pritchard, sponsor). The first place team will receive their awards from Senator Pankau at ceremonies in Springfield; second and third place awards were presented at the schools by the sponsoring legislator.
Watch for announcements soon of the Path to Investing seminars for teachers and parents. Come learn about a great online tool for learning about planning for your own financial future!
