Chicago City Treasurer Partners
with ICEE
New Chicago City Treasurer Stephanie Neely is continuing and
expanding the strong support of her office for ICEE’s financial
literacy initiatives in Chicago schools. Treasurer Neely
voiced her support for The Stock Market Game at the City of Chicago
SMG Awards Reception, held January 17th at the Chicago Board
Options Exchange. The reception was hosted by ICEE Governing
Board member Edward Joyce, President and COO of the CBOE. Treasurer
Neely greeted the students, teachers and parents attending the
program and spoke to them about the importance of financial literacy. Treasurer
Neely will help kick off the Spring semester SMG program in Chicago
through a visit to a participating school.
The City Treasurer’s office is also a partner in the Council’s Financial
Fitness for Kids program. This program, which
includes the UIC Center for Economic Education and Chicago Public
Schools as partners, is supported through funding from area financial
institutions. Now in the second year of a three-year cycle,
FFFK provides teacher training and curriculum materials for the
integration of financial literacy education in the curriculum.

ICEE Trustee Martin Cabrera and his staff have played a key role
in bringing the City Treasurer’s office into these partnerships. Our
thanks to Martin and to Treasurer Neely for their commitment to
financial literacy! |
