From The President
New Year, New Beginnings
The new year brings some new beginnings for ICEE and its friends. We
are pleased to announce the opening of a new Center for Economic
Education at Dominican University in River Forest. Housed
in the Brennan School of Business, the Dominican Center will
be headed by Dr. Dan Condon, Professor of Economics. A
reception was held on the Dominican campus in November to celebrate
the official opening of the Center. The Dominican University
Center will provide teacher professional development and other
economics and personal finance programs for schools in Cook (outside
of the City of Chicago), DuPage and Lake Counties.
A friend of the Council, former Chicago City Treasurer Judith Rice,
has begun a new role with the City of Chicago as Deputy Chief of
Staff in Mayor Daley’s office. Ms. Rice has been a
strong partner with ICEE in providing financial literacy education
for Chicago Public Schools through the Financial Fitness For Kids initiative. She
has also supported the Council’s Stock Market Game™ program
in Chicago schools. We wish her the best in her new position!
As the new semester begins for you, we invite you to try something
new – a workshop, seminar, course, curriculum – from
your local Center or Office for Economic Education, that will
enrich the learning experience for your students and add excitement
to your work.
Happy New Year!
