Students Heading to Springfield
Students from the School of Entrepreneurship in Chicago are
heading to Springfield the beginning of February to receive special
recognition as winners of the first Illinois Stock Market Game Capitol
Challenge. The student team and
their advisor, Alexander Rodan, will receive medals and certificates
from their sponsoring legislator, state Senator Donne Trotter,
17th District.
Josephine Locke School in Chicago has a student team that is
being recognized for Second Place. Representative
Michael McAuliffe, District 20, sponsored the team advised by
teacher Matthew Theil. Third place recognition goes to
a student team from Quest Academy in Palatine. Representative
Suzanne Bassi, District 54, sponsored the team advised by teacher
Andrew Shilhanek. Each school is planning a school presentation
with their sponsoring legislator in attendance.
The Illinois Capitol Challenge was a new addition this past
fall to the Council’s Stock Market Game (SMG) program,
underwritten through a grant from Citigroup Foundation. Eighteen
teams from nine schools participated in this special competition,
with awards going to the top three teams.
Along with providing an exciting new competition for some of
our participating schools, this program helps showcase the Council’s
economics and financial literacy programs to state legislators,
making them more aware of the services and programs offered to
K-12 schools statewide by ICEE.
The Illinois Capitol Challenge is one of several special
SMG programs developed by ICEE this year. Other SMG special
programs this fall included initiation of Take
Stock in Chicago, a
specialized SMG curriculum for Grades 4-5; and the DeKalb
County Challenge, helping to generate new participation in DeKalb County. |
