Celebrate! Celebrate! ICEE and its affiliated Centers for Economic Education have much to celebrate this Spring. We celebrate first the new sponsorships for our SMG program, which will make this educational opportunity available to all schools in Illinois free of charge (see lead article). In addition, we celebrate the new sponsorship of statewide “top team” awards (high school and elementary), also sponsored by Cabrera Capital Markets, Inc. In March, at the ICEE Annual Meeting, we celebrated the generosity and leadership of ICEE Trustee Martin Cabrera, whose constant advocacy for our programs has brought tremendous growth in our SMG participation (as well as spurring our Financial Fitness for Kids program in Chicago). Martin exemplifies the adage of “pay it back” – passing on to today’s students the good will of others that enabled his own success.Finally – but not least – we want to celebrate YOU – or one of your colleagues! Now is the time to nominate yourself or someone you know for one of the 3M Economic Educator Awards. There are two categories: the 3M Economic Education Excellence Award and the Innovative Economic Educator Award. Two awards ($1000 each) are given each year in the Excellence category; first, second and third place awards are given in the Innovative competition ($1500, $1000, $500 respectively).
