Workshops, programs, graduate credit programs as well as a certificate
in teaching economics are all available for teachers through the
UIC Center for
Economic Education. This unique and active ICEE Center provides
many resources for K-12 teachers.
FTE Coming Soon to a Western Suburb!
The Environment and the Economy Institute: Sponsored
by the Foundation for Teaching Economics, The Environment
and The Economy is a FREE 4 - day residential program for
middle and high school teachers designed to help integrate an
understanding of environmental issues into classroom discussion.
Focus of the program is to present an understanding of how market
forces may be used to solve environmental issues. Two graduate
credits are available. For detailed information on the program

One Week Summer Institute for Teachers
Plan on visiting Madison, Wisconsin for a week long residential
teacher training, with teachers from all over the U.S! A limited
number of seats are still available for any of the three available
week-long courses. Teachers traveling 350 miles or more are eligible
for a $400 travel stipend.
The three separate courses provide instruction and resources
in the areas of personal finance, economics, saving and investing,
insurance, credit and entrepreneurship. Three graduate credits
are available for a fee upon completion of a training course.

Virtual Economics
®: Version 3.0
Funding is still available for another teacher workshop this
spring for Virtual Economics®: Version 3.0. Virtual Economics
(VE) is sponsored by State Farm Insurance, and debuted at
the 2005 NCEE Annual Conference. Council and UIC Center for Economic
Education staff took part in the Virtual Economics Train-the-Trainer
Workshops during the conference, enabling the scheduling of Spring
2006 workshops. If your school or district is interested in receiving
this $99.95-value resource, without cost, please contact ICEE
right away. Workshops can be provided onsite, tailored to highlight
specific grade levels, or target subject/curriculum teams.
VE is designed for K-12 teachers as a resource tool for the
social studies curriculum and for the integration of economics
within the math, language arts, and science curricula. The resource
is a comprehensive library of over 1,200 printable economic lessons,
each user-friendly and accessible by searching for concept, grade
level, curriculum piece, or subject area. Lessons have been correlated
to state content standards, including Illinois State Goal 15.

Material is offered in varied formats, including Flash and PowerPoint,
a glossary and on-line leader's manual for reference after the
training. Workshops outside Chicago also feature instruction on
the use of Blackboard online program, designed to complement the
VE resource and direct teachers in their initial use for implementing
lessons with their students. For additional information and a

Jump$tart Coalition October Workshop
Mark your calendars for October 2, 2006! Illinois Jump$tart Coalition
will hold a day-long teacher training workshop at the Federal
Reserve Bank of Chicago. The workshop will highlight the latest
and greatest hands-on curriculum and will target K-12 educators.
