Economics Concepts Poster Contest
The 17th Annual Economic Concepts Poster Contest for grades
1-8 is under way! Regional competitions have now concluded, with
the top 24 drawings in each region being submitted to ICEE for
selection of the twelve statewide winners. A 2007 calendar will
be printed this fall, representing the twelve winners. Savings
bonds are awarded to regional and state winners, with an undetermined
number of Honorable Mention winners being recognized with certificates
of award.
The annual Economics Poster Contest is a competition in which
students learn to accurately depict one of six basic economics
concepts: goods and services, opportunity costs, producers and
consumers, productive resources, scarcity or specialization. Regional
competitions are hosted by ICEE's Centers for Economic Education
and conclude in the fall or mid-winter. The statewide judging
is held in April, with awards being announced in early May. Some
regional contests additionally offer receptions to recognize the
students, with parents, teachers, administrators and friends as
guests.
Teachers having submitted entries were sent copies of the calendar
to share with principals and the students.
Illinois teachers submitted over 1200 student drawings for the
2004-2005 regional contests. Contact your school's Center
for Economic Education for information. Don't miss out on
this opportunity to engage your elementary to middle school students
in this exciting program!
