"The Economics of Sin Taxes"
This year’s IASET Spring Conference will address the issue of taxes – specifically Sin Taxes, those pesky excise taxes on items such as tobacco, liquor and gambling. How do these taxes impact your community? How do they affect business? How can you use these issues to help your students better understand the taxes that they will soon be paying?

Plan to attend and learn:

  • How taxing policies influence various industries
  • If Sin Taxes are efficient means of revenue generation
  • Instructional Strategies

Take home teaching materials and ideas! The material is relevant for econ, social studies, business and consumer classes. In addition, state standards in math and language arts will be addressed in the application of statistics and reading for information. For more information and to reserve a seat, contact Sheryl Szot Gallaher at the GSU Office of Economic Education, (708)534-4926.

Ninth Annual National Young Entrepreneur Conference and Business Competition
March 29 – 31, 2006
Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Young Entrepreneur Conference and Business Competition (YEC) is held annually in Milwaukee at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. Current and prospective young entrepreneurs, teachers and youth leaders come to participate in entrepreneurship sessions, activities and competitions over two days.

Students new to entrepreneurship are able to observe and learn from their peers how to start and run a business as well as receive guidance from adult entrepreneurs who are available to answer questions. Established business professionals provide hands on assistance regarding the components of how to run a business and a diverse group of adult and young entrepreneurs share their stories and secrets to success to encourage and inspire the promising entrepreneurs.

If you are starting an entrepreneurship program or just thinking about bringing entrepreneurship into your school and classroom, this conference will provide tools, resources, ideas and motivation to make it happen.
