2006 Economics Challenges
Twenty-four teams of high school students will compete at llinois
Economics Challenge on April 11, 2006 at the Federal Reserve Bank
of Chicago. Teams of high school students are invited to participate
in a competition to test their economic understanding and reasoning
abilities. Two divisions of competition, the David Ricardo
division for consumer econ or one-semester-econ students and the
Adam Smith division for AP or two-semester econ students,
will allow teams to compete on their own level.
State winners from competitions held in early April advance to
the Midwest Econ Challenge on April 24 at the Union League Club
of Chicago. The Midwest Challenge includes Illinois, Indiana,
Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin,
and will consist of competition in both the Ricardo and
the Smith divisions.
At least 34 states will hold state Economics Challenges in 2006,
with their winners participating in one of four regional contests.
Winners from the regional competitions will advance to the National
Economics Challenge held in New York City May 20.
Illinois Economics Challenge is made possible by sponsorship
from the the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The National Economics
Challenge Program is funded through a grant awarded to the National
Council on Economic Education by the Goldman Sachs Foundation.
