Illinois Association of School Economics Teachers

For the past 25 years, Governors State University and the Illinois Association of School Economics Teachers (IASET) have sponsored fall and spring conferences for classroom teachers. The fall conference is held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and focuses on theory and economic research. The spring conference is generally focused on an issue or topic that is timely and of interest to students as well as their teachers.

These conferences provide an opportunity for classroom teachers to obtain new information and share ideas. The fall 2004 conference, held November 12, drew a record turnout of more than 100 teachers to learn about labor markets and unemployment.

This year's Spring 2005 conference theme is a topic near and dear to all of us --- "The Economics of Food." Speakers from various food related industries will speak to teachers about the economic health of their industry and how economic and government policies impact their bottom lines.

Teachers of economics, social studies, business, family and consumer science, math and English will benefit from examining this tasty topic from a variety of perspectives.

Details: "The Economics of Food" Friday, April 15, 2005 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Hamburger University Oak Brook, Illinois. Contact hours: 6 CPDU

The $45.00 registration fee covers the conference, IASET one year membership, teaching materials, continental breakfast, lunch and all-day coffee and soft drink bar. (Although the meeting is at the McDonald's corporate site, the lunch will NOT include hamburgers or fries!)
