The Stock Market Game™ - More adaptable than ever!
Year-Long Session added for long-term realism

The Stock Market Game, a real-world simulation for students in grades 4-12, has gotten even more realistic. Teachers having the same students for the entire school year can enroll those students in a Year-Long session running September/October through April. Enrollment in the Year-Long session is free, as are all the other semester-long sessions.

In it's first year, the Year-Long session has drawn the interest of over 100 teachers, who have enrolled more than 4,400 students in this 7- to 8-month simulation. ICEE will be seeking teacher feedback near the end of the session in April.

Although in real life, an investor might plan to hold a stock for many months or years, the SMG's use in the classroom does limit the investment horizon. The addition of the Year-Long session creates the longest timeline possible.

Teachers using the Year-Long session may also enroll students in either the fall or the spring sessions. The fall session is underway and ends December 7 with winners being announced the following week. The spring sessions begin January 7 (schools outside the City of Chicago) and February 4 (schools in Chicago.) All sessions conclude on Friday, April 25 with winners being announced in early May.

One other session date is new to the SMG this year. A "Special Session", running March 17 - May 23 will allow teachers to engage student teams at or near the end of the school year. The Special Session is open to any Illinois school.

For complete information on session dates, registration deadlines and upcoming teacher workshops, go to the SMG's public page, www.stockmarketgame.org and click one of the Registration buttons. Select USA / Illinois to find information specific to the SMG program in Illinois.

Lessons correlated to learning standards

Teachers registered for the SMG will have access to the Teacher Support Center of online resources - tutorials, lessons, activities, assessment tools and standards correlations. Lessons are correlated to state learning standards in the areas of English language arts, mathematics and social studies.

National standards correlations are available in the areas of business, economics, English language arts, family & consumer science, mathematics, social studies and technology.

Lessons are searchable by grade level, grades 5-12, by curriculum area and by level of proficiency.
